Hello Theatre fans! We hope you enjoy this new feature to our website “The Blog” We at Standing Ovation hope to keep our theatre community up to date on current events and the latest happenings at SOPA so lets get at it!
The newly renovated “Black Box Theatre”.
One of the many things that makes Standing Ovation unique in the South Florida children’s theater community is our on site 1000 sf Black Box Theatre! Our dream for the theatre has always been to provide the highest quality productions with the most authentic theatre experience for our guests. Over the last several years we have presented truly amazing shows as our talented actors gave their all on stage, but keeping the technical side up and running, and our theatre guests comfortable has been a challenge to say the least. Our faithful SOPA parents, friends and family have endured roof leaks A/C outages sound and lighting issues, and less than comfy seating without complaint as the kiddos continued to perform for sold out audiences.

During one of our productions a while back, as I was working the concession stand(we have THE BEST popcorn in town!) one of our SOPA parents, Mrs. Landrum approached and shared with me that her family appreciated what we were doing with Standing O and they wanted to help with the theatre. I thanked her kindly as she said they would like to make a donation and asked what we needed for the theatre. I thanked her again and said that she was already supporting the theatre with her daughters production enrollments but she was determined and again asked “really, what do you need”. At that point I jokingly replied that we could always use new lights and sound as ours was held together with a lot of zip ties, electrical tape and prayers! She immediately responded I’ll talk to my husband and we’ll get the ball rolling! The rest is history as install and training will be completed this week! We are forever grateful to the Landrum family for their overwhelming support and generosity. Also a special thanks to Evan Narlinger and Rebekah’s Dreams Entertainment and Production Services for their outstanding expertise and professionalism from design to installation!
We also need to recognize our Very own Vocal Coach Ms. Helene and her husband Kevin for helping SOPA secure the new chairs straight from The Kravitz Center! We are so grateful these cozy seats have found a forever home at Standing Ovation Performing Arts! We cant wait to show off the new and improved Black Box as we have 3 productions underway as we speak! Its almost ShowTime! See you at the Theatre!
